Main Water Supply Line Replacement
I'm helping a friend with replacing his galvanized iron main water supply line. He wants to replace it with Sched 80 plastic pipe. Is this a viable option or are there some draw backs to this approach? How long should we let the glue dry if we do take this approach. The can says we should be good to go in 30 minutes. He lives in San Jose, California.
If the code allows it, go for it. Plastic is less labor intense then working with threaded pipe, and probably can cut the installation time in half. Any plastic joint under pressure should have the ID and OD reamed to ensure a tight fit. All of the pipe should be cut with a pipe cutter with a wheel on the cutter designed just for plastic pipe. Using a hacksaw is a No-No. Good luck.
