Recently, when we run the dishwasher, the hotwater in any of the faucets in the house gets discolored for a short period of time (30 seconds) then it goes back to normal. Why the sudden change?

Sounds like a steel nipple or pipe going bad. As water sits in the pipe it becomes discolored and clears as new water washes through it.

It could be drain as you have first suggested. As responding posters we have to presume additional information the poster does not know to provide. I appreciate your drain point. This could be dirty water flowing back into the DW or a kitchen sink drain stopping up.

thanks for the replys. the drain does indeed go up around the height of the dishwasher. also, in regards to the pipe going bad, i am at a loss since everything was recently replaced and is brand new. i will look into the other things you guys have suggested. thanks.

I would look to the everything that was replaced. Did you have steel before? Perhaps a piece was left in or a new part is failing.
