this seems to be a common problem, but i haven't been able to find a solution...

after flushing the toilet, a slow dripping noise can be heard from the tank. it sounds like its coming from the flush valve. i pulled out the flexible hose but that didn't stop it. i also tried pressing down on the flapper thinking there's a problem with the seal, but that did not make a difference either. over time the water level in the tank drops. there is no water leaking outside the toilet.

how can i determine what is the source of the problem?

Does the water level drop in the Tank or the Bowl ?

Of course the flapper is a prime concern......replace it...Align it.....clean the mating flange with a kitchen-scrubbee.....use a flashlight to inspect the area for possible cracks or flaws.....

Another is the FILL TUBE....from the fill valve/ballcock to the overflow....if it extends too far into the overflow the tube can siphon....DRIP Drip drip......

Here's the Toiletology website.....wander around.....they have plenty of stories, problems and solutions for all things related to the throne.....scroll down to "Phantom Flush"....

The rubber stopper in the tank was leaking in my loo so I just greased up the flap with polysporin of all things! Any water resistant grease will fix it easy (though silicone grease works best!), just remember to turn off the water valve and dry the stopper before applying the grease! Cheers mate!
