Steam radiator covers
I am thinking about building some wooden radiator covers for my steam radiators myself. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am thinking about having tile/slate/stone/metal grills on the top. Is there any disadvantage to making the top of wood?
you will lose 50% of your heat as heat as in water is absorbed into wood, take a glass of water and pour it on a peice of wood and then on a peice of metal, the water will absorbe into the wood and roll off the metal, so metal enclosures are much more heat efficent
I have covers on my radiators and in the winter I lift the lids to let more heat out. They are metal with a mesh in the front so the theory is that the heat will make it out into the room. Yes that is true, but what a waste of time, money and heat to heat up the cover to let out warm air. I would rather be warm that the cover. And if you want to spend money, email me I handmake ceramic humidifiers that are good decorations for the old guys. Good luck.
