I am replacing a toggle switch with a dimmer. The toggle had one wire running from a terminal into the wall and a wire from the back to a terminal on another toggle next to it (which controls a different light). The new dimmer i bought has 3 wires: 2 black and a green. Which wires go where?

Please help-thank you

pinballwizard,
i suspect that the black from the 'other' dimmer is the 120vac, the 'terminal into the wall' is the wire going to the light, and the green is a grounding conductor.

The grounding conductor makes into any bare wires and/or other green wires within the box.

that said, do me a favor here and shut off your main breaker, install the dimmmer, THEN turn the main back on.

~hope this helps
