I presently have a 100 amp service with a circuit breaker panel and everyone at work tells me I have to upgrade to a 200 amp service. But after reading some of the postings, it looks quite expensive. I do have some circuits doubled up and would like to separate them. But do I have to upgrade the service just to get more circuit breakers?

lack of breaker space is not necessarily cause to upgrade one's service.

a home's electrical service is usually determined mathematically in art 220 of the NEC, comonly refered to as a 'demand load calculation'

this is a matter of sqaure footage and larger electrical loads and/or appliances.
