I am trying to install a Hampton Bay Ceiling fan in a new room addition, but I am having some difficulty in wiring. I have switches where the fan/light can be turned off/on from two different walls. My Ceiling wires are Black, White, Red, and a Copper Ground; My Fan wires are Black, White, Green and Blue {light}.
Ex. (1) I wired Blue and Black {Fan} to Black and Red {Ceiling}; White to White; Green {Fan}to Ground {Ceiling} = fan blades work but light does not.
Ex. (2) I wired Blue {Fan} to Red {Ceiling}; Black to Black; White to White; Green {Fan}to Ground {Ceiling} = light works but fan blades do not.
Does anyone have suggestions for the proper wiring so both the light and fan blades will work?
Thanks,

Tim

Your Black and Red wires in the home wiring are most likely for the two switches. I would try wiring black to red, blue to black, green to copper and white to white.

Careful though, if one is always hot, your hair may stand up!

If you have a multi-meter, you can check current on the black and red with switches on and off to see which is which.

(Please note: I am not an electrician, nor claim to be one. I am more of a diy guy.)

Well, this is what finally worked for me...
I put Red {celiling} to Blue {fan} and Black {fan}; White to White; Green to Copper ground; and capped Black {ceiling}. I can turn on the fan blades and light from switch one, and then and turn them off from switch two; however, if the fan is turned off I cannot turn the fan on from switch two. I am no electrician, but at least I can operate the fan and light now. Thanks for all your help.
