Hi everybody! I have a wall switch that controls both my light and a wall switch. Is there anyway to wire the outlet to stay on all the time but still have the switch control the light?

Thanks for any help you all can give!

Turn off the power to the switch and the outlets in the room. Pull the outlet out of the box. On the outlet, is the little jumper on the hot wire side gone and are there more than two hot wires to the outlet? If so, this is what's going on.

One of those hot wires (usually a Red one) is coming from the switch. Find this wire and remove it from the switch and the outlet. Just leave it in the box with capped ends, use a wire nut on the ends because you don't want it to accidentally make a contact.Don't cut it off either because this is a good spare if you need it later.

Install a new outlet the same way as the old one but without breaking the jumper and without the switched (Red) wire.

Your outlet should stay on continuously and the switch will work your light seperately.

Good Luck
