I would like to install recessed lights in my living room. I have plaster ceilings, though. Actually, there's a layer of drywall, then the plaster and wood lath. I've heard different stories about the practicality and ease/difficulty of installing cans in this type of ceilings. Some say it's not that big a problem, others say that I could end up with a damaged ceiling that I might have to take down. I noted this video clip on this site, though: http://www.bobvila.com/BVTV/HomeAgain/Video-1218-04-0.html

Anyhow, my specific questions are:

how much of a risk is there to messing up the integrity of the plaster?

what's the best way to avoid this risk?

my cans are 5 3/8 inches -- haven't found a hole saw that size...any advice?

Your help is appreciated...
