Like a lot of homeowners, I’ve spent years wandering the garden aisle wondering which fertilizer or weed control product would actually work without harming my grass. This year, I tried something different: a personalized lawn care plan from Ace Hardware. The process was surprisingly straightforward. Here’s how it all unfolded.

Getting Started With Ace YardRx

The process started online, where I answered a few simple questions about my yard and entered my address so that Ace YardRx could drop a GPS pin. From there, YardRx estimated the size of my lawn and asked me questions about the type of grass and any lawn problems I was having. Then, it generated a tailored treatment plan, breaking it down by season with specific products and timing for each step.

Instead of trying to figure out what my lawn might need, I was looking at a custom shopping list backed by local data and expert recommendations. And better yet, I didn’t even have to go to the store—everything was delivered right to my front door.

  • Ace Hardware YardRx Program Review Treating rock garden with preemergent

  • Ace Hardware YardRx Program Review Applying insect preventer around foundation

What Arrived and How I Used It

Ace doesn’t make its own lawn products, so my custom YardRx delivery included a mix of recognizable and premium lawn and garden supplies. The delivery covered everything I’d need for early spring care: fertilizer and crabgrass preventer for my fescue lawn, a patch-and-repair product for bare spots, a fertilizer spreader, gloves, a pre-emergent weed preventer for my landscape beds, an herbicide to target stray weeds like dandelions, and even a household insect control product.

I used the fertilizer and crabgrass preventer to treat my entire lawn and then followed up with the patch mix in the barest spots. In my rock garden beds, I applied the pre-emergent to keep weed seeds from sprouting as the weather warms. I also spot-treated a few rogue dandelions in the grass and applied the insect control product around my foundation, where we often get ants and spiders this time of year.

How Will It Work? I’m Watching and Watering

It’s still early in the season, so I won’t know the full results for a few more weeks. But the dandelions are starting to wilt, and I noticed some tiny blades of grass in the bare patches I treated. If the rest of the products perform as promised, Ace’s YardRx may have just simplified my entire lawn care routine, and saved me a few extra trips to the store in the process.

I’ll update my YardRx journey as the season progresses.
