Nothing is more frustrating than needing to plug in a charger or a lamp, only to realize the nearest electrical outlet is hidden behind a piece of furniture. Regular plugs are too bulky to fit behind nightstands, beds, or sofas that are snug against the wall, leaving you with two options: move your furniture or risk bending and damaging the power cord.
This is a predicament I’ve found myself in more times than I can count. I live in an older home where the outlet spacing isn’t optimal, which makes plugging in the most basic items (like a phone charger) a challenge. Recently, though, I found an inexpensive and effective product I wish I’d tried years ago: a flat plug power strip.
Tessan Flat-Plug Extension Cord Power Strip
Buy at AmazonMy search for a solution started in my daughter’s bedroom. She has a tight setup, with a dresser on one wall and a bed on the adjacent wall. She needed a place to plug in her phone charger, and ideally have it reach her bed, but the closest electrical outlet was sitting behind her dresser. After sifting through power strips on Amazon, I settled on the Tessan Flat-Plug Extension Cord Power Strip. The “flat-plug” description immediately caught my attention, and when I saw the product had a 4.8 out of 5 star rating from more than 6,000 reviewers, I decided it was worth a try.
I purchased the strip with the five-foot cord, which gave me just the reach I needed. (This power strip is also available with a 10-, 15-, or 25-foot power cord.) I plugged it in behind and, thanks to its flat plug, pushed the dresser right up against it. Best of all, it has 4 AC outlets, 1 USB-C port, and 2 USB-A ports, so she can plug in whatever her heart desires. It also has a built-in surge protector, which I greatly appreciate.
Because I’ve ruined nearly a half a dozen phone chargers by accidentally pushing my nightstand too closely against them, I went ahead and ordered one of the Tessan flat-plug power strips for my bedroom as well. Again, I went with the 5-foot power cord, and now I can plug in my laptop, phone charger, and a bedside lamp without worrying about bending the plugs. At less than $20 a pop, I’d highly recommend grabbing a couple of these power strips for all the hard-to-reach outlets in your home.
