In 2026, the industry continues to shift toward battery-powered and robotic tools and equipment where they are most effective and efficient, while gas-powered equipment continues to dominate the most demanding heavy-duty jobs.

Ecovacs Goat A3000 LiDAR Pro Robot Lawn Mower

Robotics brands continue to break down barriers to autonomous lawn care and to improve performance. The new Ecovacs Goat A3000 LiDAR Pro offers advanced navigation powered by 360-degree dual LiDAR sensors and AI-empowered obstacle-avoidance cameras. We tested it on 1,300 square feet of St. Augustine lawn, including a gentle slope, raised garden beds, and a tree in one corner.
It was up and running within 5 minutes of being unboxed. The cut quality was beautiful, and it had no difficulty navigating around obstacles. The dual LiDAR navigation system eliminates the problem of getting lost under trees or near buildings. As a bonus, the mower is equipped with a built-in edge trimmer that works surprisingly well.
Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50-Inch Zero Turn Mower

The new Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 showcases the brand’s ongoing effort to offer premium equipment at a competitive price. It retains the popular 726cc 23-horsepower Kawasaki engine and 50-inch AeroForce fabricated steel deck. This year’s upgrades include a powerful AGM battery, a full LED headlight bar, and a newly designed luxury 20-inch high-back seat. We tested the Ultima Z2 on two rolling acres of dense centipede lawn and weedy, overgrown bermuda grass.
The combination of engine power and tri-blade cutting system did a beautiful job on the lawn. It cut cleanly and ejected the fine clippings across a wide area so that they basically disappeared. The whole system seems to have been purpose-built with ease of maintenance in mind. The battery, oil drain, and air filter are all positioned for easy access, and the mower comes with a multitool so you can remove the floor pan for deck and belt maintenance without digging through your toolbox.
Stihl HLA 40 Extended-Reach Hedge Trimmer

Once upon a time, power hedge trimmers were unavoidably heavy and unbalanced because of their gas engines, corded electric motors, or heavy batteries. The Stihl HLA 40 is incredibly lightweight and well balanced, largely because of its tiny-but-powerful battery and the forward position of the motor. We used it to trim hedges of different shapes and sizes, from waist-high to gutter-height, with branch thickness ranging from .125 inch to .5 inch.
The tool-free telescoping shaft and 115-degree articulating head really make this tool shine. They allowed us to shape all of our shrubs without using a ladder, and minimized the amount of bending and stooping needed to trim the low branches. The trimmer never felt unwieldy, tiring, or difficult to control. The hardened steel blades retained nice sharp edges, cutting the last branches as cleanly as the first. We were also impressed that the battery lasted through the entire project, about 45 minutes of trimming.
DeWalt 20V MAX XR Handheld Blower

DeWalt’s new handheld blower is its quietest blower to date, operating at 58 decibels while pushing 550 cubic feet of air per minute at 133 miles per hour. It only weighs 12.5 pounds with the included 8-amp-hour battery installed. We used this blower for general lawn and landscape cleanup and to clear debris from the shop floor.
Having used several older DeWalt blowers, what stood out most about this one was its light weight and good balance, combined with the textured overmold grip. This blower was way more comfortable to operate and less fatiguing than any of the earlier models. We also liked that the variable speed trigger and airspeed lock allowed us to lock on any speed and maintain speed while conserving the battery. It’s one of our favorite 20V blowers yet.
Aiper IrriSense 2 Smart Irrigation System

For those who struggle to keep up with landscape watering, the new Aiper IrriSense 2 smart irrigation system could be an ideal solution. IrriSense 2 covers up to 4,800 square feet (a 39-foot radius) and is programmable for up to 10 zones. It waters on schedule, skips watering when it rains, and even includes a built-in nutrient dispenser to assist with fertilization. To find out how accurately and evenly it waters, we set it up on a large lawn bordered by curved beds.
Setup, zone mapping, and scheduling with the mobile app took about 15 minutes–no digging is required. It requires a power connection and WiFi coverage to operate as designed. The system is easy to operate, but it’s important to understand irrigation math for best results. For example, our water supply produced 6.5 gallons of water per minute. In order to apply .5 inch of water on a 1,000-square-foot zone, IrriSense 2 had to run on that zone for 48 minutes. The other consideration is managing the hose connection. We found that it’s best to unhook the hose when not in use to avoid killing the grass and to ensure it’s already put away at mowing time.
