I have standing water in my yard, even where you don't see it, the ground is mushy and sopping wet. We don't have septic systems and none of our immedediate neighbors suffer from this.

My question is what, if any exists, program should I follow to adjust the soil in my yard? I've heard of adding sand or top soil on a regular basis - but haven't see anything definitive on the subject.

Thanks for any ideas.

it sounds like you have an under ground seasonal spring, you are lower than your neighbors, or you have some kind of water leak. check your water meter with all water in the home off. if the dial is moving at all, you have a leak. if not it sounds like you need to instal a french drain.

If your water table is high, it will be next to impossible to fight it. Why not plant a glorious garden that enjoys moist to wet soils? Water gardens are so in vogue now and can be truly beautiful.
