I am considering installing a flat ceiling in a few rooms in my house that currently have vaulted ceilings. My question is- if I insualte between the joists on the new ceiling, should I cut some holes at the top of the old vaulted ceiling up at the ridge? Would this ventilate this space and keep it cooler? I do have a problem with ice dams and this would be one of the reasons for installing new ceiling (among others...)
Thanks for any advice.
