We recently purchased new interior doors for every room in our 1929 English Tudor. In an effort to keep the style of the period, we purchased vintage door locks (with the cutesy key) and vintage door knobs. As the lock kit is about 3"x3"x1/2" We have not found a boring kit for these. Can you help us?

From your description, I believe that you are refering to "mortise" type locks. Installation requires creating a mortise in the edge of the door. This is traditionally done by drilling a seriers of holes (brace and bit or spade bit with an electric drill), then cleaning out the mortise with a chisel.

It can also be done with a mortising attachment for a router or a router-like devise that is made specifically for the installation of mortise locks (I believe that Porter-Cable makes this devise, check in the Tool Crib catalog or their web-site on
