I am just about to purchase a new home. It was built within the last year, and has a new gas fireplace. I don't know much about gas fireplaces, but I do know that I hate it! It's in the corner of our living room, and is absolutely hideous. I'd like to get rid of it, but I don't have any idea where to begin. If anyone can give me resources or any ideas on how to get rid of this monstrosity, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

We need a bit more information.

1) Is there brick or stone around it or is it drywalled around it?

2) Is the hearth raised or floor level? What is it made of?

3) Is the fireplace angled into the corner?

4) Its not one the free-standing types (like a stove) is it?

5) IS it vented, direct-vent, or vent-free?
