My younger sisters efforts at scrubbing some dried food off the countertop yesterday were well aimed but not well executed. She used the scruffy end of a Brillo sponge (the green abrasive side) and now we have several small circles of shiny damage that can be seen when the light reflects off the countertop. How do I repair these "buffer-like" circles of damage? PS-The 'toothpaste remedy' didnt work.

Thanks

suggestions would be different if the countertop were granite, soft stone, tile, "formica" or manufactured solid surface like corrian and the like.

Please advise what the countertop surface is, so the correct fix-it solution can be offered.

Sorry. The countertop is standard formica.
