- kenmore washer 70 series spinning trouble
Please post a complete model number. It sounds like the lid switch lost its connection at the console from the shaking. (But it could be other things.) Does the timer advance to rinse with the lid closed then there is no sound at all from the machine?
This thread has a lot of info on lid switches.

I think the model # is 82872130 and it is just quiet after it quit. I don't hear a thing. I don't hear the dial going on any further if that makes sense.
I'll try to help, but I'm only pinch fitting for the pros who seem to be busy. Is that model number 110.82872130? Here's the diagram: http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImagePageJava.shtml?productTypeID=0153200&brandID=0582&modelDesc=AUTOMATIC%20WASHER&modelNumber=11082872100&documentID=00041756&documentTypeID=PLDM&documentClassCode=PM&titleType=TOP%20AND%20CABINET%20PARTS&titleID=00001&
As a safety feature, the washer will not spin if the lid is open. (Newer washers will not agitate or spin.) If the lid switch is not working the machine will stop before spin even if the lid is closed. With the timer set to spin, you need to open the console and wiggle the connector to see if you can make contact. If still no response, jump the wiring harness to bypass the switch. You need to be careful and have a working knowledge of electricity to do this or you could be electrocuted.

** I think the model # is 82872130 **
The complete model number looks to be
110.82872130 making it a whilrpool built
machine.
** it quit now it won't spin out and drain.
It is full of water and will agitate but then
it won't go on from there. **
That does sound like a problem in the washer's
lid switch (see the following link) as HandyBob
or the lid switch's actuator mechanism.

Any of the other things which might cause your
symptom wouldn't usually stop the timer from
advancing as you reported.
