We currently have an older electric stove that needs replacing.

We don't use the oven much, mainly the burners.

I'm wondering, how much savings would there be if we converted to a gas stove, considering we don't use the oven much? Is it a lot? Not much?

I'm afraid I have no idea of the cost of energy difference between the two. It is pretty hard to calculate. It will likely also depend on the exact rates for each in your particular area. Ask your propane company for their propaganda on the subject and then take it with a grain of salt

I will tell you that gas ranges operating on propane usually generate ~20% less heat than when running on natural gas. Many consumers aren't very happy with the heat generated by most gas range surface burners running on natural gas! so reducing it even more by using propane could result in unsatisfactory cooking. The oven isn't normally affected much.

If you do decide to go for propane, I'd suggest looking for a gas range model with 12-15,000+ BTU surface burners. With them you should get in the area of 10-12,000 BTUs once converted, which might enable adequate heating for cooking. I would definitely suggest staying away from any models with 10,000 BTU or less, rated (on natural gas) surface burners.

Afterward I found a site that said that the energy cost differences are negible between the two.
