I am finishing my stair trim in redoak and the 1x4's that hang down to accept the drop in ceiling are in oak also, I was going to buy 8 1x6's and cut the snug and miter both sidesafter I get 3/4 of the box builtI was going to wedge it in placenice and tight After I am satisfied. I was then thinking that maybe I could pre drill 4 bottom holesinto the concreteand countersink and run some tap cons into the 1x6's Then I was figuring ov covring Thanks again

You would want to pre-assemble instead as you never know if they are going to be on an even plane if your going with the miters.

Another option rather than miters would be to use a reveal of say an 1/8 that's pretty common. Looks good in oak too.

Seal first or use treated at the concrete.
