I have a toilet that makes noise like its just starting to flush.. but it doesnt. Whats happening is that the ball inside goes down a knotch..thus the noise and then comes back up. How do I fix that? thanks

You have a ghost, called the phantom flusher .
Actually there is a soltuion easier than an exercisim.
It is caused by a leaking flush valve.

In most cases you can just pop off the old one and replace it with a new one.

In rare cases it can also be cause by the the fill level set too high, a crack in an ther overflow tube. It can also be happen if the small tube from the fill valve to the overflow tube is installed with the end BELOW the level of the water in the tank. If that happens it can syphon water out of the tank.
