We have leaks in our evaporator coil which is 8 yrs old. I have got 2 quotes so far.
1. Bryant/ trane evaporator only - $1175 incl. taxes and labor.

2. Trane condenser+evaporator - $1913 and
Janitrol condenser+evaporator - $1750 (both of them 2 ton, 10 seer)

Our outside condenser unit is made by Lennox which is 8yrs old and is still working. Is it worth changing it now since I get a discount on the evaporator coil?

Also, I want to go with higher seer and ton equipments assuming I can save money in the long run. I have a two-story house (2300 sq. ft) and I have two units outside for each story. And I have to replace the upstairs coil because of the leakage. Is it worth going with the higher seer and ton eqpt.? If so, how much should I go?
thanks...

The Quote for the Evap only in very high. It is up to you as to replace the entire system. Average life of an A/C system is about 15 yrs in the NE. Increasing the SEER is always a good Idea, but expect to pay about 1000.00 more to the final cost. Tonage of the units seems to be OK @ 2.o tons each. If the ductwork cant hande the increased tonage, you can expect problems down the road. I wonder if the bidd is high due to unit being in a crawl spade?
An 8 year old unit??? Can't anyone find the leak?
