I replaced my old manual thermostat with a programmable one. Everything is fine except that the fan continues to run even when set to auto and the ac unit shut off.
Can someone help me with identifying the problem with the wiring setup ? I have a forced air furnace and York ac controlled by the thermostat.

The wiring on the thermostat is okay. I contacted Honeywell and they instructed me to take it off the base plate. The fan continued to work which means that control of the fan is not from the thermostat.
Somehow the fan is now directly wired without any break/control from the thermostat.

Since it was working correctly before changing the thermostat I would look very closely to the wiring at the base and behind the wall.
remove the base and pull the wires out an inch or 2.
Look every closely for any cracked or worn insulation. Or an extra lenght of wire sticking out of the terminal.
And if it was wired with stranded wire make sure that all of the strands are under the screw terminal and there are no wiskers sticking out.
