I'm adding outlets in a basement to a 15amp circuit on 14g wire. The circuit will basically support a frig and an entertainment center. How many outlets are allowed on one circuit. I will have about 14 total - is that too many?

The NEC does not limit the number of outlet on a circut, however, I would check with your AHJ, when I lived in Garden Grove, CA, the electrical inspector would only allow 7 max.

wvutm,

There is no max on the number of receptacles on the circuit. However a max of 10 to 12 is preferrable, and I would lower it with the fridge. IMO the fridge should be on a dedicated 20 A circuit, although not required by the NEC. You're only going to power the fridge and an entrtainment center now, but what about tomorrow when you add the computer and the printers and the...

put the frig on a dedicated circuit with a single outlet, gfci is not required on a frig. if it triped you would lose your food. i would use 2 circuits for the other outlets. use standard duplex outlets but they must be fed from a gfci unit. gfci is required on all recepticals on concrete floors. i put my ceiling lights on different circuits. that way they will not go out if a gfci trips. buy a book from your local home depo or electrial supply store. you need to do it safely. when you are doing it yourself the most expensive parts are breakers and gfci recepticals. your labor is free. check local code for wire size. some only allow 12 ga wire on a receptical circuit.

Roger,

Could you reference "gfci is required on all recepticles on concrete floors"? Is it local? I know of no requirement for such. The NEC requires GFCI's in unfinished basements (areas or parts of basements that are not intended as habitable and limited to storage areas, works areas and the such).
I do however agree that to put the fridge on a dedicated circuit (not GFCI) and split the others onto 2 circuits is a good idea. But, I still recommend using 20 amp circuits with 12 ga wire.
