We are starting to install vinyl siding on our new home. We have purchased the square 'pocket trims' (about 6" x 6") for outdoor lights and receptacles to mount on. These trims are only 1 1/4" deep from the outside of the trim to the sheathing. How do you flush mount a GCFI receptacle in these boxes with that little room? Surface mounting an outdoor box and cover will not look very good. Also, when installing the outdoor wall lights on these trims, do you need a junction box cut into the trim or can you just wirenut the connections and stuff them behind the fixture? Should there be a box already installed on the stud sticking out 2" for the sheathing and 6 x 6 box? Please help. Thanks

If the siding box you have has indentations for single gang boxes or octagon boxes you will have to cut them out and install boxes into them. If the siding box has a molded box as part of it with ko's in the back you can bring your wiring into the back of it, unfortunately a GFI receptacle is too deep to fit in it. There are other molded siding plates on the market that are deep enough but they are hard to find. Check with a siding company. You can also install the gfi receptacle inside the home and attach the outside standard receptacles to the load side of the gfi. Standard receptacles will fit in these boxes. Hope this helps
