i am replacing a very old wall oven. turns out the 220 wire from the box is aluminum is there anything special i should do when hooking this to the new wall oven??

Just make sure the connections you are placing the aluminum wires into are rated for both copper & aluminum wires.
They will be marked with "Al/Cu" or "CO/ALR" on the connection.
And you need to be more careful about making a good, tight mechanical connection. The wire should go at least a full 3/4ths turn around the screw, and fasten that screw down tightly. And never use the back-stab, push-in terminals (they aren't likely on an oven connection, anyway).
Aluminum expands when it gets warm, and then shrinks down when it cools off, much more than copper does. So if not properly done, this can eventually lead to the connection becoming loose, which can cause overheating, and even starting a fire.
