Bvflooring
Want to redo floor in daughter's bedroom. Right now is dark hardwood, in ok shape. It's a small room and in an effort to brighten, I wanted to "whitewash" the floor--not to make the floor white, just to lighten the color. I discovered Minwax makes a whitewash stain. My husband thinks it won't work. Am I crazy?

if you want to change the color of a hard wood floor ,first you need to remove the existing color by sanding off the finish. after you have removed the old finish and you are down to bare wood you can put on the new color and or finish. good luck

With a dark color on the floor this will not be a good choice the dark will show thru.
Rent a floor sander and take the dark off you will be much happier and have a longer nicer looking job.
Good luck
