I recently purchased a three year old home. I've noticed hairline cracks in both the basement floor and walls. The ones in the basement have expanded across the entire floor. One has widened a bit. The ones in the wall seem to descend from the basement windows. There is one below each window.

My question: should I be concerned? Are these cracks a sympton of a deeper problem or are they normal? We have been experiencing drought like weather this summer. Could this have any thing to do with it?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

No fix, just a comment. Many areas of the country are experiencing extreme drought. If you are one of those areas, you may be experiencing an unusual amount of "settling".
I and some of my neighbors have experienced foundation problems recently.
In some cases, the fix is to have the foundation jacked up.
