Peel and stick tiles were installed on top of the existing (9x9) tiles. The tiles underneath the peel and stick, are at least 40 years old and could be vinyl/asbestos tiles, and we are not sure how to tell if they do have asbestos in them. If there was a way to tell for sure that they did not contain asbestos, I would remove both the peel and stick as well as the original tiles myself. Two questions- Is there a solvent that will remove the glue left behind from the peel and stick tile in the event that I decide to install new tiles over the old tiles (40 year ones)?
Is there a way for a lay-person to tell if the original tile has asbestos and/or what resources would we use to find out?
Thank you
