HI I am restoring an old oak table. My father had it dipped and he stained it a light oak and used polyurethane for the sealer. I sanded the table down and finished with a 220 grit. I did use a wood conditioner on the table before applying stain. When I applied the stain(oil based) and wiped it off after 10 minutes-it was very blotchy and small " rain drop" looking stain kept appearing on the top. What did I do wrong?? and was is the best way to now remove this dark stain?
