My husband and I want to install egress windows. Seems like a doable DIY project (he is very handy although hasn't done this before). Any suggestions on preferred egress window kits? And, does the type of foundation matter? I'm not sure what mine is (house built in 1910 out of concrete block). Any other tips on how to make this project go smoothly very welcome. Thanks!

Good project for DIY, you can save a bunch of money. Best egress window kit for DIY is from Bright Idea Egress - https://brightideaegress.com - includes a heavy duty steel frame so it works with any foundation and prevents foundation problems. Also important, this kit has a unique window well with interior flanges that involves significantly less digging (most labor-intensive part). The trickiest step is cutting your foundation. You can rent a concrete saw, but I recommend calling a pro concrete cutter, should cost about $300, ask them to cut up your slab, but you can break up cinder block yourself if you need the exercise
