We just bought an old house and due to some "weird" plumbing issues, we're not really sure how the previous homeowners had the washer hooked up. We got a plumber in and got ourselves settled in as best as possible.

Now we have an issue regarding a lint filter on a washer. We have public water but our own septic tank. This means we can't be putting all the lint into the tank. So, we need a filter. My parents have a hose that empties into the utility sink and that hose has a net/filter on it. Simple, effective. But they have their house set up properly.

This old house had a utility sink, but we're really not sure where or how it drained. We're guessing they may have just had it emptying all into the sump!

Anyway, we don't have a sink down there. So what can we do? Is there some type of filter we can add on to our outgoing line to trap the lint? We could "Fake" the sink, and just have the water drop in, and then pump it out to the proper line, but that requires the sink, the pump, etc. Seems like more of a hassle. Are there any devices to use to make it easier on us?

There is an inline lint filter available (see the following link) which can be used with most washing machines that installs into the drain hose before it reaches the house plumbing drain (whether a sink or standpipe).

- Washer Drain Protector

It comes with installation instructions.

That is exactly what I was looking for. It appears to be a fairly simple thing to attach, too. Thanks!
