Putting lights on time- cost effective?
I am clueless to this topic and really need help. We recently moved to a new house. We have a lamp post that turns on at night and off at daybreak (I'm sure there's a name for this) Its great! We would like for our exterior garage lights and porche lights to do the same. I am not sure how the lamp post works. Is it a bulb or some kind of adaptor that we can put in the other 2 areas? Or does some special electical work need to be done? We are having other electrical work done on our house and our electrician recommended we put them on a timer. Seems to me that would be more costly if we have other options. Any direction would be appreciated!
If you just want to have a light bulb turn on when it's dark, there are screw-in bases that will turn a light on when it's dark. GE makes one and calls it the "GE Automatic Light Control". If you want to have multiple lights controlled without having multiple screw-in controller bases, there are photodetector units that can be installed in an outdoor weatherproof box that can control a whole circuit, although that would entail altering an existing circuit and probably require some professional assistance.
Hope that helps.
