When to re-stucco?
My house is of stucco and is 60 years of age. Here and there a hairline cracks (like around window sills. I need to know under what circumstances I'll need to consider re-stuccoing (which is very expensive) versus a good paint job using elastomera (which 1 painter is against - not sure why!).
When you can no longer seal the cracks, if water can infiltrate the surface, or if the surface is no longer solid or sound it is time to re-stucco. As long as the stucco is hard, solid, and not deteriorating to the point it is soft or crumbling or can no longer be sealed to keep water out, it should be OK.
