Ok guys I need your help. Here’s my dilemma. I have a current 16ft by 12ft wood awning which I’ve had problems with yellow jacks and carpenter bee’s nesting in. I decided to look into tearing the wood awning down and purchasing a rollup cloth awning such as Sunsetter, Awningstar, NuImage and others. After talking with various rollup awning manufactures I’m starting to think going this route is not such a good idea. First, the cost of tearing the existing awning down plus the purchase of the new installed would be $2500 to $3000 bucks. Second, it’s beginning to look like the rollup awnings have many issues such as problems when it rains, wind, mildew, and the possibility of bugs nesting in the optional cover which can be purchased to protect the cloth. Also, it appears that the required height for the rollup awning mount my exceed that which is available on my home. This may add another $250 bucks to the cost.

I took another look at the existing awning and thought perhaps I could cover the ceiling which is exposed with some sort of material. Currently the ceiling is a few 2 by 4’s which are where the bugs tend to nest. Also the roof needs replacing as well as the existing plywood the roof sits on. Doing this would be much cheaper. Question, what can be used to cover the ceiling, PVC or Vinyl flashing? Or, can someone recommend another solution?

Thanks in advance
