My house is about 45 years old,I am having a problem with a yellowish verdigris showing on a small section of the cast iron drain pipe that leads to the sewer line going to the outside sewer system. This pipe is in the overhead in the basement. The basement is dry.

Can you give me any idea what could be causing this and what should be done to correct the problem.

Thank you

Ed.

Perhaps you have a copper drain line that is leaded into the cast-iron pipe and a patina has formed? I'm just guessing, Without seeing your situation. I wouldn't worry about it too much if it doesn't leak. You can try to clean it with SOS or brillo pads if it's bothering you. You won't harm copper pipes by cleaning it with steel wool.
