Can I use 50/50 (50% lead 50% tin) solder to sweat copper drain pipe? I know you aren't supposed to use this for supply lines (and I'm not), but is it OK for drain/vent use?

I have gotten a box of plumbing suplies from my brother-in-law which included a big spool of 50/50 solder.

Thanks

Ron

The reason that don't make lead solder anymore is because the lead would leach into the water inside the pipes you drink from. As long as you don't plan on drinking the water from your drain pipe i think your safe, lol. They've also started making lead free brass for this reason too.
