Ok here is the deal. I have a shower thats starting to leak. Now the leaks are happening under the shower. I was in the basement and saw the leaks so I ripped open a section of the ceiling to see wht was happening. The drain pipes look solid and they are not leaking from what i noticed. But the leaks are coming from the side around the rubber / plastic shield thats under the tiles. I don't know what the name of it is, but thats where the water is dripping from.
My question is how do I repair such a leak? Do I have to re-grout the tiles or do something else?
Thanks for any input!
I am by no way a handy person, but wanted to mention that when I bought my house almost 2 years ago, I had water dripping in the basement. Turned out to be the soap dish in the tiled wall needed re-caulking. Did that but ended up putting in a tub surround. Another leak happened last year, and I called a plumber. Turned out that the shower door track, where it meets the frame part on the wall needed a little bit of caulking. The water was getting in where the metal track met the metal frame. Such a simple (and tiny) thing that I would never have known or thought of. No problems since!
thanks for the input.....
im going to do a detailed inspection of the shower and chalk up any holes. While I'm at it, I could redo the grout on the floor tiles, I messed them up when I first did that a few years ago.
anyone know whats the easiest way to remove old grout off the top of tile. Should I buff it out?
thanks
