Everyone....I'm thinking about using a local companies product that claims to clean the air inside of a house using an active system. I've listened to the sales pitch they give and on the surface it sounds almost too good to be true so it probably is.

Here's what I've learned about this system..

Their cleaning unit consists of 4 filters, two normal and two carbon enclosed in a box attached to your HVAC. The chamber has a ultra-violet light to kill bacteria and germs that's not trapped in the filters. In order to work effectively you need to have registers for intake and outtake in each room. They also recommend you run your fan all the time to maximize effects. They claim this is a class 2 medical device and reduces dust, eliminated mold, gases, smells, etc in your home. I suffer from allergies pretty bad in the spring and have thought about installing one of these systems but the price isn't cheap.

Question is has anyone ever heard of these people or systems? If so do these systems work as well as they claim, I'm surprised these systems haven't been publicized more. What's the long-term effects on my HVAC system with one of these units?

I don't know about that particular company's product, but I can say that the UV light does work to kill things to which many people are allergic. My son is an HVAC technician who also has allergy problems. He installed a UV light with a special filter in his system and it made a big difference for him. He sleeps much better now.
