Carol: did you ever find out the age of your Lennox G8? I had a G8 that I just replaced this past summer. The G8 was installed in 1968 and was in excellent condition. My HVAC Tech said it was a great workhorse. P.S. I replaced it only because it was so inefficient (only about 50% efficient now) even though it worked great.

I just moved into a house with a Lennox G8 furnace. According to information I found on a home inspection website, before 1974, the first 3 digits of the S/N indicated the year and month of manufacture. In Carol's case, S/N 6375K02882 would indicate the furnace was made in July of 1963.

My question about my furnace is: Where should the S/N be? My furnace has an Identification Plate that states:

Model G8-137-M-1

Serial 65-7

I think this means the furnace was made in July of 1965, but this is not a complete S/N. (Unless Lennox had a _really_ slow year in 65.)

Am I right about the year?

Where else might I find a S/N?

Thanks in advance.

actually the third and fourth digit of the nomenclature denotes the year and the fifth is the letter which correspnds to the month...A= Jan.

B= Feb. etc...
