Hi

I have a boiler which is baseboard gas hot water. The home is 45 years old. The boiler is in the basement. I have noticed that when the heat is on and the water is heating up the baseboard it smells like burnt popcorn and it stings the eyes.. Has anyone experienced this? If so, what do I need to do to fix this problem. SHould I paint the pipes that the water runs through. SHould I wrap the pipe? Should I spray it with rustoleum? Any help would be appreciated.

My question is this. When the hot water baseboard heat is on there is a smell like burnt popcorn. Where it comes from I do not know. The unit rattles and clanks too.

I nothing nothing about how your house is constructed and I don't know much about HW heat.

But I am wonder if what you are smelling is from the boiler caused by a leaking vent system?

HI well now that may be something to think about. My boiler is in the basement.Beside that is a fireplace in the basement Above that is where i have my computer. It seems to be associated with that particular area. Maybe I should have my chimney checked.
