Is there a way to install a whole house fan in a cathedral ceiling? (new house construction)

If you do have attic space NEXT to the cathedral room you could mount a vent fan in vertically in the gable end to exhaust into the attic space.

Also there are commercial style exhaust fans where the motor and fan or on the outside. Potentially they could be mounted on the ceiling or a gable end exposed to the outside.

Don't know how easy it would be to mount one on a convetional roof, they are usually mounted on a flat room.

Wall mounts are common for commercial exhaust fans. But in either case looks might be a problem.

This is a two story house with no attic but here is an area where a vertical fan could be hidden and duct the air to the outside, probably through the roof. Is there a way to close the outside opening when the fan is not on? Is there a rule of thumb as to the size of the opening?
