I have a question about branching off a circuit. I have a circuit in a room, all of the outlet boxes are in series. Example:

----Outlet-----Outlet-----Outlet----etc.

Is it up to code if I do something like this:

-----Outlet----Outlet----Outlet----etc.
\
\
\
Outlet

Do all outlets have to run in series, or can you "Y" off of a box. I'm assuming you can, but I wanted to double check.

Thanks!

Outlets actually run in parallel. You can tap into any one of them to run another outlet. If you want to tap in between them then you need to install a box. You can't make splices that are not in a box.
