This receptacle is installed on a cover of a surface box.

Receptacles Mounted on Covers. Receptacles mounted to and supported by a cover shall be held rigidly against the cover by more than one screw or shall be a device assembly or box cover listed and identified for securing by a single screw.

No, this is a Code fact and information that will be useful for those who may be installing or replacing receptacles in this manner.

We use the NEC to help and identify rules often overlooked, or not known by installers.

This picture is a good example of why the code was changed to the current requirement. There are probably millions of the old single screw mount covers out there and way too many of them are like the one in the picture (or worse).

IMO, when replacing a receptacle that uses this type of cover, time to pony up the extra $1 and change the cover too.
