i have a flor to ceiling unit in my apt. kitchen which i am stripping down to the original wood. it has about 9 coats of paint on it; the last two or three are oil-based. after i strip and sand the wood, how can i best protect the wood? is linseed oil enough or should i polyurethane it? also, the silverware drawer just slides on the open framework for the cabinet below. there are no sides to mount a rail for wheels to slide on. when i pull it out, it falls down. how can i make this a truly functional drawer?

Yes you should use urethane as a finish on the cabinets as the linseed oil is not made for this type of use.
Someone else can answer on the drawer problem.
