My wife and I redo antique and garage finds. I sand the items and my wife base paints the items and then she tole paints them.

The problem we are having is we use a semi-gloss interior for the base coat. She then uses a water based polturathane for protection of the tole painting. After she applies the polyurathane though the finish starts to yellow in certain spots.

Is there something we can do to take care of this problem.

If you are using an oil based paint for the base coat the water based urethane could be turning that yellow. You may want to start using clear shellac as it won't yellow and it won't cause the base coat to yellow eihter.
