I stripped and sanded an oak floor that is over 100 years old. What is the best way to finish it for durable wear.

Polyurethane is the best. Use a first coat cut with 50% mineral spirits and follow with at least 2 more full strength coats.

Is there any problem waiting in between coats? I just did mine and have one coat on it. The smell of the polyurathane really irritates my wife so she has to stay elsewhere when this is being done. I was going to wait awhile until she has to go out of town before doing another coat. It doesn't see any direct sun and very little "wet" traffic.
