We have a few hand made ceramic tile that we want to mix in w/commercial tile for our kitchen backsplash. The hand made tile is not glazed, and absorbs water and other liquids. My question is, can we put polyurethane clear finish on the tile to prevent water, grease, etc. from penetrating the tile and leaving a mark or stain ? Thanks

Hi ricke,

No, you can't. You need to buy a tile SEALER that, specifically, designed for this purpose. FIrst, you need to clean the tiles. Check into Muratic Acid. READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY! I'm not sure if it's to be used for this purpose, but the bottom line is you need to clean the tile before you seal it.

My best to ya and hope this helps.

Yes, i put poly on some scratched marble and ceramic and it not only sealed the grout but shined the tiles like stars. It worked great.
