We purchased polished marble tile to install on part of the floor and around a new whirlpool tub in our upstairs bathroom. It's a gray/black color with white, gold and tan veins running through it.

I've been doing a lot of reading about sealing the tile once it's installed, but there seems to be a wide variety of options. The dealer recommended a sealer that they sold for $90 a bottle, and he said to use it both before and after grouting. Some sites on the internet say that a good paste wax will do the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Im not an expert (took class on installing tiles). My understanding is that marble (any stone) needs to be sealed.. because it will stain in use (and the grout will stain too).. So seal first then grout.. then wait 7 days then seal again (to seal the grout).. I chose a stone enhancer (sealer) because to brings out the colors of the stone (and seals too).. A quart was $35.. Sealers are tricky business (IMHO) but if you are doing marble, and want the stone to look more interesting (wet the stone with water to simulate enhancer effect), then I believe the enhancer sealer is just the thing.. I believe the enhancer will slightly darken the stone (but I thought overall it was a plus; to my eyes anyway).. Which is what you are getting into with stone.. art..
