We bought the house ... removed the old carpeting and want to put down Pergo or other floating flooring. The subfloor has loads of staples sticking up somewhat from where the old underlayment of the carpeting was removed. How do we go from there? Do the staples have to be romoved? Do we have to put down something over the staples? I know a plastic type vapor barrier is called for but is that enough so the staples won't cause a problem? Or is it a problem?

Thanks for your help.

You can either scrape them up(preferable), or pound them down. And i would assume since you have staples in your floor now, it is a wood sub floor. You do not need a vapor barrier. But you do need an underlayment pad. This helps the floor sound like a wood floor when walking onit.
